SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Drag Racing's leading Internet e-zine, CompetitionPlus.com, will hit the track in 2001 with a formidable team bolstered by the re-signing of John Vouros, 2001 IHRA Rookie of the Year candidate. As great as that news is, it is well complimented with the potential award-winning paint scheme for up-and-coming designer Roderick Burke for Tommy Mauney's forthcoming supercharged 1941 Willys.

Vouros, of Victor, New York, enjoyed a tremendous professional rookie season in 2001. The former Top Dragster racer, who retained veteran tuner Tom Anderson to lead him in the right direction, finished fourth in the IHRA Funny Car points standings. He also reached the final round twice and was a low qualifier on more than one occasion. The 11th hour deal is one that makes Vouros excited about the 2002 season.

"I've really enjoyed representing CompetitionPlus.com," explained Vouros, who also added Tom Anderson Enterprises as an associate sponsor. "Our new entry is top secret, very revolutionary and will be like no other Funny Car has ever been in a lot of areas. If people want a peek they will have come to Dinwiddie for the Spring Open in March."

Mauney 2002 Rendering

Tommy Mauney, who was named the second driver on the revamped Mike Ashley Gotham City Racing team (www.gothamcityracing.com), will hit the track in style thanks to an incredible paint scheme from Burke Designs (burkedesigns@aol.com) that features his trademark purple, pearl white and tangerine. The new thing, which will be a first for Mauney, is the addition of flames that run over the top of the car in both orange and purple.

Joining CompetitionPlus.com in this venture will be Flyin' High Promotions and Red Line Oil.

Mauney added, "I feel that Roderick has done a great job and he came close to what I envisioned the car being. I have always wanted a car with flames and I finally got my wish. I can't wait to hit the track, this season is going to be incredible."
