Wed, 19 Dec 2001, 08:34 AM Stott and Athey Powerhouse to Utilize Jim Lape in Championship Quest

INMAN, S.C. -- Personnel is the key to having a great company and with that in mind, the newly formed blockbuster team of Quain Stott and Paul Athey have retained the services of 2001 championship winning crewchief Jim Lape to assist them in their development of a new supercharged engine combination. Lape, who will return in 2002 as Mark Thomas' crewchief, will also serve as both tuner and consultant for the Pro Modified team.

Athey and Stott joined forces in November and quickly agreed that Lape was their man.

"There's no doubt about it," explained the LeeBoy-sponsored Stott, who calls Inman, South Carolina home. "His talent level is legendary and that is enough for us to have the confidence that he will lead us in the right direction. Jim is a no-nonsense guy that goes after what he wants and does it wide open.

"We'll also have Bob Newberry around to help us if we need it and to throw that into the mix will make this season incredible. I can't wait until we can hit the track. It's going to be a tremendous season and IHRA Pro Modified."

No word on the brand of engine yet, although it will be assembled by Stott's longtime engine man Gene Fulton.

The team is hard at work fabricating a new 1963 Corvette for the upcoming season in Alan Pittman's C&P Race Cars Shop.
