NORWALK, Ohio -- IHRA Vice President Aaron Polburn has announced Sunoco Race Fuels will increase their sponsorship program with the International Hot Rod Association.

Beginning in 2002, Sunoco becomes the title sponsor of IHRA’s largest national event, the Sunoco World Nationals at Norwalk Raceway Park. Sunoco will extend their sponsorship of the Sunoco Race Fuels Shootout through the 2004 season. The shootout is contested at the World Nationals where the top eight Pro Stock point earners compete for a $40,00 purse. The winner receives $20,000.

"I’m pleased to announce Sunoco Race Fuels has extended their commitment to present the Pro Stock Shootout through the 2004 season," stated Polburn. "Sunoco has chosen to grow with us and help IHRA showcase the fastest and quickest Pro Stock cars in the world."

The top four qualifiers at each IHRA national event also receive $1,000 in cash awards, including $400 to the pole sitter. "It doesn’t take a professor to realize IHRA is the future of the Pro Stock class," said Bill Corwin, National Sales Manager, Sunoco Race Fuels. "Sunoco has been very pleased with our partnership with IHRA. The level of competition if a perfect fit for our race fuels and customers."

Polburn also revealed that Sunoco has signed a multi-year commitment to become the title sponsor of the Sunoco World Nationals. The three-year deal allows IHRA and Norwalk Raceway Park to utilize the power of over 400 Sunoco service stations and convenience stores across the Midwest.

"With the power of Sunoco and our Clear Channel media package, the World Nationals is poised to reach new levels of spectator success," commented Polburn. "We are going to build consumer loyalty by putting the IHRA fan and Sunoco customer together." "Sunoco is treated very well as part of the IHRA family, and we look forward to being associated with them for years to come," added Corwin.
