POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock Bike at the 37th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:


Left Lane: Scott Lewis Runs 7.464/183.94, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.423/178.85, Was #15
Right Lane: Greg Underdahl Runs 7.445/180.94, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.580/184.60, Was #20

11:29 AM The temperature is still coolish, but the sun is starting to peek out from behind the clouds. This should be a good session. Underdahl's new bike is still not up to par.

Left Lane: Clarence Markham Runs 8.401/123.47, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.445/180.07, Was #18
Right Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.435/178.59, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.450/177.09, Was #19

No help for these two. Markham slows in the right lane.

Left Lane: Sam Hurwitz Runs 7.351/182.18, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.430/178.10, Was #16
Right Lane: Brian DeLong Runs 7.492/180.57, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.468/178.52, Was #20

Big move for Hurwitz into the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Ron Ayers Runs 7.348/179.61, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.389/181.50, Was #14
Right Lane: Reggie Showers Runs 7.322/183.32, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.384/181.98, Was #13

Two more good moves up the field. Bump is Lewis with a 7.423

Left Lane: Fred Camarena Runs 7.301/178.40, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.375/182.97, Was #14
Right Lane: Jay Matthews Runs 7.477/176.53, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.396/178.54, Was #15

Camarena finds the combination and leaps to the number eight spot for now.

Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.274/185.49, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.368/184.02, Was #14
Right Lane: Chris Reuter Runs 7.331/180.19, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.351/177.44, Was #12

Big move for Berry into number six. Reuter is right behind and moves up a spot.

Left Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.538/146.93, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.357/183.07, Was #14
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.285/181.98, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.296/182.13, Was #8

Scali has problems with the shift and slows. Johnson improves his ET, but stays in the number 8 spot.

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.193/186.43, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.244/185.10, Was #5
Right Lane: GT Tonglet Runs 7.256/184.47, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.281/182.50, Was #7

Gann moves into the number one spot. Rookie of the Year candidate Tonglet improves behind him.

Left Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.238/188.31, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.219/181.86, Was #3
Right Lane: Matt Hines Runs 7.313/185.51, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.244/188.65, Was #5

Hines has problems off the line and neither bike improves.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.289/182.60, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.230/185.72, Was #4
Right Lane: Angelle Savoie Runs 7.186/184.07, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.206/184.60, Was #2

Savoie jumps right back into the number one spot for this session. Brown is slower by a tenth in the first 60 feet. Scott Lewis ends up on the bump with a 7.423 ET.
