POMONA 3 - Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #3

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock at the 37th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:


Right Lane: Tom Lee Runs 6.986/198.58, Now #28; Best prior run: 7.016/197.54, Was #29

11:43 AM Lee opens the Pro Stock session with a single. Lee is driving one of the older Avengers for the Johnsons. He steps up but still is on the outside of the field.

Left Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 6.875/200.50, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.929/200.65, Was #20
Right Lane: Gordie Rivera Runs 6.951/198.17, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.997/197.45, Was #29

Alderman goes from outside the field to the #1 spot. He had a 1.014 sixty foot number and the Dodge pulled all the way through.

Left Lane: Mike Trumble Runs 6.924/199.32, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.934/199.11, Was #21
Right Lane: Arturo Delgado Runs 7.309/189.10, Now #27; Best prior run: 6.979/198.76, Was #27

Delgado has his car back from the body shop after contact with the wall after the finish on Thursday. Neither driver gets much help and will need the final session.

Left Lane: John Nobile Runs 6.944/199.11, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.978/199.20, Was #26
Right Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.978/197.20, Now #27; Best prior run: 6.981/197.02, Was #28

Again a pair that will need the final round.

Left Lane: Brad Klein Runs 6.941/198.03, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.975/197.74, Was #26
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.946/199.46, Now #25; Best prior run: 6.971/198.26, Was #25

Klein cards a 1.009 sixty foot number but the car heads for the guardrail at the hit. Johnson. in his new Neon, gets no help.

Left Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.910/200.14, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.937/199.37, Was #22
Right Lane: Mark Osborne Runs 6.902/200.53, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.922/200.14, Was #19

Osborne makes the top half of the field. Koretsky also makes the field but lower down.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.964/200.26, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.927/200.17, Was #22
Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.873/201.13, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.919/199.94, Was #19

Kurt moves around off the starting line and it kills his ET. Coughlin (Troy) makes a big move from out of the field to the #2 spot.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 7.177/199.85, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.918/200.41, Was #19
Right Lane: Hurley Blakeney Runs 6.895/200.20, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.916/199.85, Was #18

Morgan rolls the lights and the ET shows it. Blakeney's crew goes nuts when the time for the Mustang hits the board.

Left Lane: Bo Nickens Runs 6.899/200.17, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.921/199.79, Was #20
Right Lane: Brad Jeter Runs 6.903/199.94, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.909/199.88, Was #15

Nickens gets into the field and Jeter moves up.

Left Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 6.869/200.98, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.913/200.14, Was #18
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.864/200.80, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.905/200.26, Was #15

Jeg goes all the way to the top of the field. Hammonds is now in at #3.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.870/201.13, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.906/200.98, Was #17
Right Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 6.879/201.10, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.904/199.91, Was #16

Both racers are back in the field and they both go over 201 mph.

Left Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.879/200.35, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.904/199.97, Was #17
Right Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.878/200.71, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.903/200.20, Was #15

Eighties are cheap in this session.

Left Lane: George Marnell Runs 6.863/201.10, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.898/200.29, Was #13
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 7.273/191.65, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.901/200.89, Was #15

Krisher slows but Marnell goes to the top spot.

Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.850/201.22, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.878/200.71, Was #8
Right Lane: Tom Martino Runs 6.884/201.34, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.893/200.47, Was #13

Now it Yates heading up the class.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.855/200.83, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.883/200.92, Was #12
Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.867/201.61, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.867/201.49, Was #4

Great session. Edwards goes to #2 and Warren falls to #5. Warren needs to pick up at least two positions in the final session to close out Jim Yates.
