By Dave Gerard

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock at the 37th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Tom Lee Runs 6.950/198.61, Now #26; Best prior run: 6.986/198.58, Was #29

2:38 PM The trucks and bikes stayed almost the same. WJ needs to move up to the number three spot to nail the championship. No help for Lee. The Bump is 6.901!

Right Lane: John Nobile Runs 7.016/198.06, Now #25; Best prior run: 6.944/199.11, Was #24

Delgado improves, but not enough.

Left Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.962/198.55, Now #29; Best prior run: 6.978/197.20, Was #29
Right Lane: Brad Klein Runs 6.937/198.00, Now #23; Best prior run: 6.941/198.03, Was #23

The weather is going to make any improvement tough in this session.

Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.928/200.32, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.927/200.17, Was #22

Rivera, like others, improves to no avail.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.948/199.37, Now #27; Best prior run: 6.946/199.46, Was #27
Right Lane: Mike Trumble Runs 13.875/62.28, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.924/199.32, Was #21

Trumble gets crossed up off the line and has to shut off.

Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.879/200.95, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.918/200.41, Was #20

Big moves for both cars. The bump in now 6.85 for Blakeney.

Right Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.907/199.79, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.910/200.14, Was #20

Right Lane: Bo Nickens Runs 6.888/200.56, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.899/200.17, Was #18

This should be the last pair that can bump. Krisher just misses the top half of the field and Nickens get tomorrow off.

Left Lane: Hurley Blakeney Runs 6.888/200.44, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.895/200.20, Was #19
Right Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.879/200.50, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.879/200.35, Was #15

I was wrong. Blakeney could do it, but not today.

Wow! Allen jumps way up to the number two spot.

Right Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 6.884/200.53, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.869/200.98, Was #8

Both cars run close together and can't improve.

Left Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.868/200.92, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.873/201.13, Was #11
Right Lane: George Marnell Runs 6.884/200.50, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.863/201.10, Was #4

Troy is one of the few cars to improve this session into the number seven spot for now.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.864/201.34, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.867/201.61, Was #6
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.861/200.89, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.855/200.83, Was #3

WJ has a wiggle just off the line and can't improve enough to go into the number three spot or better. Edwards runs better too and stays in the number 3 spot.

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.866/200.80, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.864/200.80, Was #6
Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.894/200.98, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.850/201.22, Was #1

Yates will end qualifying on the top spot. Warren needed to qualify #3 or better and he would have closed out Yates chances for the Championship. As it stands Yates still needs to win the event and set the record. Oh yeah. Warren also has to lose in round one. Tune in on Sunday.
