POMONA 3 - Pro Stock Bike Qualifying Notes, Session #2

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock Bike at the 37th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:


Left Lane: Greg Underdahl Runs 11.566/68.13, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.580/184.60, Was #19
Right Lane: Clarence Markham Runs 7.445/180.07, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.927/155.26, Was #20

2:02 PM Friday at Pomona and the stands are starting to look like Saturday. Can Pomona support three events? You bet! Underdahl sits up at half track as it sounded like the bike wouldn't shift. Markham moves up but remains outside the field.

Left Lane: Brian DeLong Runs 7.468/178.52, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.480/179.90, Was #19
Right Lane: Sam Hurwitz Runs 7.430/178.10, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.437/178.90, Was #16

Hurwitz picks up one spot. No help for DeLong.

Left Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 9.440/91.77, Now #18; Best prior run: 7.450/177.09, Was #18
Right Lane: Fred Camarena Runs 7.375/182.97, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.433/183.24, Was #16

DeSantis gets loose and shuts off. Camarena moves to the top half.

Left Lane: Jay Matthews Runs 7.407/174.75, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.396/178.54, Was #13
Right Lane: Scott Lewis Runs 7.532/179.61, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.423/178.85, Was #15

No help for either rider.

Left Lane: GT Tonglet Runs 7.281/182.50, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.395/179.04, Was #12
Right Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.357/183.07, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.410/177.74, Was #14

Rookie of the year candidate, GT Tonglet, is up next. He picks up a tenth from Thursday. Scali also improves and moves to the top half.

Left Lane: Chris Reuter Runs 7.351/177.44, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.388/180.94, Was #12
Right Lane: Ron Ayers Runs 7.395/184.85, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.389/181.50, Was #13

Reuter moves himself back into the top half. His 1.09 sixty foot number was one of the best in the session. Ayers slows slightly from Thursday.

Left Lane: Reggie Showers Runs 7.438/180.26, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.384/181.98, Was #12
Right Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.368/184.02, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.374/183.72, Was #10

Two nice laps but but no help for either rider.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.296/182.13, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.362/181.28, Was #9
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.230/185.72, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.264/184.37, Was #4

Brown moves into the #3 spot. Not a big move but the conditions aren't great. Johnson also makes the top half.

Left Lane: Matt Hines Runs 7.244/188.65, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.274/186.46, Was #5
Right Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.279/185.21, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.244/185.10, Was #4

Hines picks up one spot by moving Gann down. Big speed for Hines.

Left Lane: Angelle Savoie Runs 7.206/184.60, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.217/185.00, Was #1
Right Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.266/185.23, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.219/181.86, Was #2

Savoie picks up from her prior run but Treble falls off. That's the final pair of the round.
