LAS VEGAS - Results of round 2 eliminations in Funny Car at the Inaugural AC Delco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals: Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed 13 Al Hofmann 4.975 294.05 Q 5 Dean Skuza 4.855 315.64 (T Wilkerson ) 0.512 5.104 267.32 E1 (D Worsham ) 0.504 4.852 315.56 *****WINNER***** 0.515 4.964 305.22 E2 0.494 5.106 239.9512:51 PM In their only prior meeting this year Dean Skuza defeated Al Hofmann at the Northwest Nationals at Seattle. Side by side leave and they are welded together until about 1000 feet. At this point there was raw fuel out of the pipes on the Skuza car that indicated that the blower belt may have come off. The Safety Safari is out on the track doing some cleaning in the Hofmann lane. Shouldn't be to long as it appears to be a short streak after the finish. Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed 10 Bruce Sarver 4.908 306.88 Q Bye (T Johnson Jr) 0.509 4.901 308.71 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.494 8.752 93.09 E2Sarver pulls into the staging area by himself as he benefits from the double DQ of Bode and Force in round one. Sarver will meet the winner of the Tony Pedregon vs. Bob Gilbertson match later in the session. Tire smoke ends Sarver's shot at lane choice. The track temperature is about 112 degrees and it's getting a slippery out there.

1 Whit Bazemore 4.748 323.04 Q 8 Ron Capps 4.866 310.91
(J Toliver ) 0.497 4.827 320.28 E1 (F Pedregon ) 0.486 4.884 312.57
0.497 4.875 317.57 E2 *****WINNER***** 0.447 4.884 314.02
Capps wins one on a holeshot. He had five in the bank at the hit and Bazemore
could only close back one of the five on ET. Capps will have lane choice in the
next round against Hofmann.

3 Tony Pedregon 4.836 315.19 Q 11 Bob Gilbertson 4.912 310.34
(J Lawson ) 0.544 4.830 315.78 E1 (S Cannon ) 0.508 4.881 305.22
0.505 5.678 193.49 E2 *****WINNER***** 0.492 4.914 300.40
Tony could have made a point move on third place if he could have won this
race. As it was the black Mustang of Pedregon's began to smoke the tires hard at
330 feet. Capps made up some of the points he'll need to finish third but it will
come down to Pomona I'm certain. Gilbertson will have choice over Sarver next
round.
