LAS VEGAS 2 - Pro Stock Bike Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Darryl Jackman

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Bike at the Inaugural AC Delco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Thomas Miceli Runs 7.462/176.97, Now #1

2:39 PM Miceli comes out as a single to open bike qualifying. He changed his rider number to 911 to honor the September 11 heroes and victims. Nice opening pass even if it was a bit crooked in the middle of the run.

Left Lane: Scott Lewis Runs 7.597/175.39, Now #3
Right Lane: Jay Matthews Runs 7.577/175.27, Now #2

Both riders are new to the NHRA tour.

Left Lane: Mike Kovacevich Runs 7.587/172.83, Now #4
Right Lane: Fred Camarena Runs 7.527/175.16, Now #2

Kovacevich was smoking for the entire pass but appears that there is nothing on the track as they fire the next pair.

Left Lane: Todd Doege Runs 7.474/180.33, Now #2
Right Lane: Chris Reuter No Time, Now #7

Both of these riders have been in the twenties this season. Here Doege makes a single as Reuter has problems. Nice speed.

Left Lane: Dennis Mirante Runs 7.675/173.03, Now #7
Right Lane: Clarence Markham Runs 10.545/84.09, Now #8

Markham sits up on the bike before half track as he encounters some problems. Mirante makes a good baseline.

Left Lane: Sam Hurwitz Runs 7.633/177.00, Now #8
Right Lane: Greg Underdahl Runs 7.522/179.40, Now #3

Underdahl looked like he was taking the top spot but fell short. Hurwitz fell short of perfection and his time won't hold.

Left Lane: Blaine Hale Runs 7.486/177.30, Now #3
Right Lane: Brian DeLong Runs 7.531/178.19, Now #6

Two more good runs. We are at altitude here and the times will look a bit strange.

Left Lane: Ron Ayers Runs 7.433/177.88, Now #1
Right Lane: Joe DeSantis No Time, Now #15

Ayers moves to the top of the field but DeSantis sits up at about the 330 foot mark.

Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.484/178.90, Now #5
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.462/178.00, Now #2

Johnson falls just short of the top spot. Berry was just a couple of ticks of the clock behind at the finish.

Left Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.388/180.24, Now #2
Right Lane: Reggie Showers Runs 7.387/182.03, Now #1

Showers sets low ET and top speed of the session to this point. Scali to the two spot.

Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.417/180.94, Now #4
Right Lane: GT Tonglet Runs 7.396/180.79, Now #3

Both riders just miss the top spot.

Left Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.506/181.23, Now #12
Right Lane: Matt Hines Runs 7.495/173.25, Now #11

This pair needs to find a tenth plus for the next session. Neither will be real happy.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.440/180.36, Now #7
Right Lane: Angelle Savoie Runs 7.366/181.08, Now #1

The two point leaders match up in the first round of qualifying. Savoie shows why she's leading the points as she takes over the lead in qualifying. Brown falls into the seven spot. That's the final pair of the session. We close with Savoie on pole and Camarena on the bump.
