BRISTOL, Tenn. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Federal-Mogul Funny Car at the FMDRS 2-6 listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Steve Harker Runs 6.173/242.36, Now #1
Right Lane: William Fulford Runs 7.267/196.82, Now #2

Fulford's engine was laboring off the line and never picked up.

Left Lane: Bruce Peterson Jr. Runs 6.119/232.39, Now #1
Right Lane: Bruce Mullins Runs 28.642/25.30, Now #4

Mullins idled off the line and coasted to the end of the track.

Left Lane: Von Smith Runs 5.969/245.75, Now #2
Right Lane: Jay Payne Runs 5.770/248.84, Now #1

Smith skated around a little until about halftrack, then straightened up for a decent run. No problems for Payne as he takes the early pole.
