4:35 PM These two have faced each other 30 times in their careers, Scelzi holding a 19-11 edge over Bernstein. It is Scelzi's fifth final; round this year, the 38th of his career, with 24 wins. Bernstein was in his 103rd career final round, his 55th in Top Fuel and his 10th this year, with 60 career wins, 30 in Top Fuel.

Scelzi left first and was never headed, quicker at every incremental timer. Both cars were eating internal engine parts on the top end and Scelzi was way over to the right, near the centerline, but he stayed in his own lane for the win. Margin of victory = 0.030 seconds (approximately 14 feet). Bernstein leaves with a 58 point lead over Dixon with just three races left in the 2001 season.
