Results of round 1 eliminations in All Motor at the Mazda NHRA Import World Finals
Presented by Toyo Tires:
Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
5 Aaron Schley 11.605 116.02 Q 4 Tsuneaki Mankumo 11.596 118.15
0.580 11.795 114.12 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.566 11.600 119.04
It's hot outside, over 95 degrees, but the track is sticky! This should be a
good round of racing. Mankumo left first and runs just .004 off his career best to
take out Schley's Pink Honda.
Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
7 Christopher Sharma 11.689 115.94 Q 2 Joel Mandl 11.369 117.86
0.795 13.618 101.64 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.661 11.418 117.75
Joel Mandl has just one thing in mind - win more rounds than Scott Kelley.
Joel must win this and the next round to claim the Points title in All Motor for
2001. Mandl did a HUGE burnout, well past the tree.
Sharma Bogs off the line and the race is over at that point. Margin of victory =
2.334 seconds (more than 100 feet).

3 Tony Shagway 11.374 120.14 Q 6 Lavelle Sheppard 11.658 115.36
*****WINNER***** 0.513 11.211 122.08 E1 0.545 11.544 116.21
Shagway chopped down the tree then ran the highest speed of the weekend in all
motor to take out Sheppard. Nice Pass!
Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
1 Scott Kelley 11.347 118.23 Q 8 Bill Burnham 11.737 112.92
*****WINNER***** 0.633 11.568 116.36 E1 0.507 11.881 112.10
Kelley's car number is extra special - "911" The Toyo Tires sponsored Kelley
was very lucky to survive this round, Burnham spanked him on the starting line, but
Kelley had enough horsepower to catch him at the top end of the track. In round
two Kelley will race Mankumo, and Mandl will claim the 2001 title if he can get by
Shagway.
