IMPORT -6 - Hot Rod Round 3 Eliminations
By Michael L Jex

Big Final will Decide 2001 Championship

PONOMA, Calif. - Results of round 3 eliminations in Hot Rod at the Mazda NHRA Import World Finals Presented by Toyo Tires:

All Lisa Kubo must do to win the championship is keep going rounds. She's got some real competition in the other lane. It's Bruce's first Import Drag Race as a driver, but he's been the tuner for this car for the entire season for the Venom Team. Mortensen's team started jumping up and down well before the timing lights came up - Lisa had a problem of some kind at the top end of the track, but Mortensen had quite a holeshot advantage. Bruce in his first race is going to his first final - and Lisa will have a nail biting time watching the last two runs of racing in the class. If JoJo Callos can win the race, he will beat Kubo by just one round of racing for the entire year

With Lisa's loss JoJo can now control his own destiny for the 2001 points championship. All he has to do is win the race. No runner-up, he MUST WIN. Kenny Tran has been inconsistent - some races he's been in the top three, other times parts breakage has been a problem. This is one of those special moments where it is "too close to call." It's Callos! He'll face Mortensen in the final, so all the marbles will be on the table. If Callos wins, he gets the 2001 championship. If he loses, Lisa Kubo will be the champion.
