Janis and Wilson Soar to Top Qualifying Spots

Mike Janis, of Lancaster, N.Y., and Gene Wilson, of Canton, Ga.,
posted the quickest times ever run in their respective classes at the CARQUEST
President's Cup Nationals at Maryland International Raceway during Saturday's final
qualifying efforts. Janis will lead the Mopar Pro Modified field into battle on
Sunday with a 6.112 second run at 230.53 mph, while Wilson recorded a 6.532 elapsed
time at 213.37 mph in Sunoco Pro Stock.
Both Janis and Wilson must back-up the elapsed times within one percent in order
for them to be considered World Records.
Dale Brand, of Sully, Iowa, and Steve Stordeur, of Goshen, Ohio, took home number
one qualifying spots in Funny Car and Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley-Davidson,
respectively.
Professional eliminations begin Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
