BUDDS CREEK Md. -- Carl Moyer, Ankeny, Iowa, owner of Karl's Chevrolet and driver of a popular 1957 Chevrolet Pro Modified car in the IHRA Summit Drag Racing Series, retired abruptly Friday evening, during qualifying for the 10th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts President's Cup Nationals.

Carl Moyer
Moyer, who qualified fourth in the first Pro Modified qualifying session Friday, had been talking about retiring, but few expected him to do so after his car performed well at the two most recent IHRA events and made another very good initial run at Maryland International Raceway.

Apparently the recent performance helped clinch the sale of Moyer's car to Bob Rieger, best known for his street-legal racing exploits. Rieger took delivery of the car Friday evening and Moyer headed for home Saturday morning.
