Lazcano, Gonzalez, Callos, Yallon and Gee Win

In Rescheduled NHRA Nitto Extreme Performance Import Nationals



ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. -- Jorge Lazcano won the Pro category in the rain-delayed NHRA Summit Import Drag Racing Series at the Nitto Extreme Performance Import Nationals at Old Bridge Raceway Park here Sunday.

Carlos Gonzalex, Jojo Callos, Ari Yallon and Cotorress Gee won their respective categories at the Nitto Extreme Performance Import Nationals, the third of six races in the $120,000 NHRA Summit Import Drag Racing Series.

The race was originally scheduled for June but was delayed by rain after one day of qualifying had been completed.

Lazcano, driving a 1996 Nissan 300ZX caught Jose Torres napping at the starting line with a 0.497-second reaction time compared to Torres's 0.732-second reaction time. Lazcano ran the quarter-mile in his in 7.651 seconds at 170.86 mph while Torres took 7.886 seconds at 155.70 MPH speed. To earn the Pro category win, Lazcano had to get by Marcos Acosta, and Rafael Rivera Collazo.

Gonzalez won the Modified class title by knocking off Craig Paisley. Gonzalez ran a 8.470-second ET at 158.97 MPH to beat Paisley's 8.635-second run at 157.03 MPH. To get to the final round, Gonzalez had to beat Jose Castillo and Chris Rado.

In the Hot Rod category, Jojo Callos took advantage knocked off Lisa Kubo in the second round and went on to meet Mike Crawford in the finals. Callos used a bit of gamesmanship at the starting line and that led Crawford to roll through the lights as he tried to stage. Callos went on to make a 9.796-second run at 134.91 MPH.

Yallon continued his perfect season by defeating Jeff Hill in the Street Tire category. Yallon recorded a 10.340-second ET at 123.18 MPH in his 1993 Mazda to hold off his opponent. Hill broke just past the 60-foot mark of his final round run.

In the All motor class, Gee moved closer to Joel Mandl in the national points standings by winning the final-round face off against the points leader. Gee, driving a 1992 Honda Civic, qualified number 2 and ran a 11.849 second ET at 102.09 MPH. Mandl, the number one qualifier at the event, drew the red light.

The inaugural season of the NHRA Summit Import Drag Racing Series continues Saturday, Sept. 29 at Pomona Raceway in Pomona, Calif.
