Left Lane: Ron Hope No Time, Now #19; No Prior Run Right Lane: Bob Muravez Runs 6.960/215.17, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.464/212.73, Was #11 3:20 PM Hope has to shut the altered off after the burnout and loses his chance to qualify this weekend. Muravez smoked the tires right off the starting line, pedaled once then hooked all the way to the finish. Left Lane: Gerry Steiner Runs 6.911/209.04, Now #16; Best prior run: 18.791/39.03, Was #20 Right Lane: Bill Dunlap Runs 6.241/223.47, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.354/180.55, Was #8 Dunlap gets off the bump of the Top Fuel 'A' field on this pass. Steiner smokes the tires about twenty feet off the line. He pedal once and legs it to the top end. Steiner is in the 'B' field for the moment. Left Lane: Lee Jennings Runs 7.488/168.85, Now #18; Best prior run: 10.607/83.29, Was #19 Right Lane: Jim Murphy Runs 6.247/233.84, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.475/180.94, Was #13 Jennings was up in smoke and slowed way down. Murphy slots in right behind Dunlap in the field. Left Lane: Rick McGee Runs 6.417/210.60, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.325/215.58, Was #8 Right Lane: Roger Lechtenberg Runs 6.295/241.32, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.414/233.56, Was #10 Lechtenberg sets top speed of the event with a BIG speed in the right lane. The 6.29 moves him into the 'A' field on the bump. McGee had a nice run in the other lane but lost almost a dime from his first pass of the day. Left Lane: Rich Howell Runs 8.216/136.03, Now #19; Best prior run: 14.030/66.56, Was #20 Right Lane: Dale Pulde Runs 6.337/221.05, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.414/0.00, Was #11 Pulde just misses the 'A' field. Howell was up in smoke and fails to make the cut for either field. Left Lane: Mike McLennan Runs 6.608/220.62, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.176/205.94, Was #17 Right Lane: Jack Harris Runs 6.285/233.36, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.344/204.82, Was #11 Harris is the current Goodguys point leader in top fuel. Currently he is not qualified in the 'A' field and this will be his last shot. McLennan will just be trying for either of the eight car shows. Harris makes the 'A' show but McLennan was up in smoke and can only wait and see. Left Lane: Brendan Murry Runs 6.828/169.34, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.533/204.88, Was #14 Murry had problems getting the car back into forward after getting back to the starting line. After much fussing the car rolled forward into the beams and an instant green. He stayed on the pedal for a long way but the car coasted closer and closer to the centerline. At about 1000 feet he lifted and remains in the 'B' field with just a couple of cars to go in the session. Left Lane: Kirk Kuhns Runs 6.931/190.38, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.436/229.31, Was #12 Kuhns put out a hole right at the starting line and the car never recovered. Left Lane: Rance McDaniel Runs 7.832/113.75, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.215/207.69, Was #2 The Champion Speedshop mount launches very hard but McDaniel shuts the small block Chevy off just after half track. That concludes Top Fuel qualifying.
