Valley Thunder Weekend:
Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
8 Matt Goss 6.775 205.51 Q 1 Pat Austin 5.737 248.39
0.522 6.529 222.60 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.529 5.862 219.27
Austin's run was real good till the 1000 foot mark, then the burst panels let
go. Austin slowed after that, but still ran in the 5.80's. Were down for a quick
check of the racing surface. 5:25 PM
Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
7 Dave Germain 6.446 212.22 Q 2 Bucky Austin 5.752 248.81
0.519 6.516 212.44 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.586 5.833 247.17
5:29 PM Just a brief cleanup was required, and we are back underway. Austin
took little time to thunder by Germain - .992 short time for Austin compared to
Germain's slower 1.038. Austin was past Germain just after that, the black Camaro
ran big top end speed once again.
Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
6 Clint Thompson 6.101 222.73 Q 3 Larry Miner 5.828 243.28
0.485 6.135 234.19 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.462 5.965 239.32
Thompson was fighting some wild tire shake - that proved to be the difference.
Clint stepped up in a big way with top end speed, but it wasn't enough to overtake
the hard charging Miner.
Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
5 Bret Williamson 6.077 238.37 Q 4 John Weaver 5.854 238.05
0.526 5.957 238.91 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.483 5.872 241.87
Two Division Seven hitters have made the trip north - first they have to race
each other. Williamson's Corvette actually spun the rear tire enough to make some
tire smoke on the 1-2 shift. It wasn't much, but it was enough for Weavers Pontiac
to pull out and win by over a car length. 5:41 PM
