MEDFORD, Ore. - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Federal-Mogul Funny Car at the Snap On Tools Valley Thunder Weekend listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Clint Thompson Runs 6.101/222.73, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.464/106.67, Was #7
Right Lane: Matt Goss Runs 7.268/119.35, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.775/205.51, Was #8

Thompson drove through the shake and bumped up one spot. Goss lifted and popped the chutes early, the reason not clear from this vantage point.

Left Lane: Larry Miner Runs 5.828/243.28, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.888/243.38, Was #4
Right Lane: Bucky Austin Runs 5.752/248.81, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.818/247.57, Was #2

Austin's 60-foot was a little lazy, just a .976. Th car was smooth as slick in the middle of the track, the big Hemi made tons of power all the way to the stripe. He missed bumping Pat Austin out of the top spot, but the Exxon machine looks ready for the racing action tomorrow.
