Bandimere Speedway Bids Farewell to Summer

With Second NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series Event



MORRISON, Colo. -- Bandimere Speedway will host a second round of the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series, Sept. 21-23. The event is the last of six races in NHRA West Central Division competition and the second of two at Bandimere Speedway. It will feature more than 500 cars in eight categories, including 250-mph Federal-Mogul Dragsters and Federal-Mogul Funny Cars. Drivers will earn points leading to divisional and national championships and compete for a share of $148,495 in cash and contingency awards.

Winners of the event in June were David Wells in FM Dragster, Cy Chesterman in FM Funny Car, Robert Bailey in Competition, Bob Dennis in Super Stock, Bill Howell in Stock, Michael Miller in Super Comp, Jeff Taylor in Super Gas and Paul Sherratt in Super Street.

Gates at Bandimere Speedway will open at 8:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Racing starts at 10 a.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday. FM Dragsters and Funny Cars will make one qualifying pass Friday at 4:15 p.m. and two more Saturday at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, gates open at 8 a.m. and eliminations begin at 9 a.m. FM Dragsters and Funny Cars begin eliminations at noon.

Tickets, including pit pass, are $10 Friday, $20 Saturday and $22 Sunday. A three-day pass is $45 and a two-day pass (Saturday and Sunday) is $35. Children 12 and under are $6 each day.

FRIDAY, Sept. 21 -- Gates open at 8:30 a.m. Qualifying and time trials begin at 10 a.m. Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car qualifying sessions are scheduled at 4:15 p.m.

SATURDAY, Sept. 22 -- Gates open at 8:30 a.m. Final qualifying and time trials are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car qualifying sessions are scheduled at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

SUNDAY, Sept. 23 -- Gates open at 8 a.m. Eliminations begin at 9:00 a.m. Eliminations for Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car begin at noon.

PURSE: The NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series competitors will compete for cash and contingency awards of $148,495, part of the 43-race, $6.5 million series.

BONUS PROGRAMS: FEDERAL-MOGUL POINTS FUND -- a $561,000 point fund from Federal-Mogul, which will be shared by 2001 Federal-Mogul divisional champions and Federal-Mogul national champions. Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven Federal-Mogul national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

SEALED POWER LOW QUALIFIER BONUS -- a $167,500 overall bonus fund from Federal-Mogul ’s Sealed Power brand to the low qualifiers at each of the 43 Federal-Mogul events and the 24 NHRA national events: $1,000 each in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car; $200 each in Competition and Super Stock; and $100 in Stock.

FEATURES: More than 500 drivers in the eight racing categories. Eight-car fields in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car, featuring five-second, 250 mph side-by-side racing.
