Rickets was out of the gate first and had violent tire shake and then blistered the Goodyears to end his day. Wells run look clean and smooth to move on to round two.

Bybee with the starting line advantage and had a little tire shake, but drove through it. Meyer with his best pass of the weekend to move on.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   3 Paul Jones 5.520 255.60 Q 6 Phil Mass 5.689 249.30
                  0.547 13.578 57.46 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.497 6.077 234.68
Jones with problems as soon as he hit the throttle and lifted by the 150-foot mark. That was lucky for Mass has he used up every bit of his lane first getting real close to the wall then back toward the centerline. He did a great job keeping it in his lane for the win light.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   8 Jeff Hamelink 5.756 212.28 Q 1 Bruce Bowler 5.428 252.73
                  0.487 7.066 97.88 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.506 5.528 253.95
Hamelink with starting line advantage and had the lead until just before 1000 feet. Then had a big puff of smoke out of the headers and then the chutes came out. That was the break Bowler needed as he drove through violent tire shake, but took the win. Bowler will have lane choice over Wells and Meyer will have his lane choice over Mass in the semis.
