FMDRS 5-5 - Federal-Mogul Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1

EARLVILLE, Iowa - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Federal-Mogul Funny Car at the Winnebago Division Five Event Five listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:


Left Lane: Larry Bakke Runs 7.354/146.17, Now #2
Right Lane: Kirk Williams Runs 5.970/245.70, Now #1

Bakke with tire shake and was out of the groove. He got real close to the wall. Williams drove through tire shake right off the starting line.

Left Lane: Scott McVey Runs 6.446/219.19, Now #3
Right Lane: Danny Crownhart Runs 6.428/215.82, Now #2

McVey was real loose and got close to the centerline, but stayed with it. Crownhart shook the tires.

Left Lane: Robert Kanenwisher Runs 6.166/236.22, Now #3
Right Lane: Vern Moats Runs 5.928/244.10, Now #1

Moats still looking for his first win of the season laid down a nice pass here to go to the top of the pack. Kanenwisher was hugging the centerline from half track through the quarter mile.

Left Lane: Gage Chaffee Runs 6.595/214.18, Now #7
Right Lane: Wayne Butler Runs 6.099/229.00, Now #3

Butler with a good pass to get into the top half of the show.

Left Lane: Newburg Runs 6.609/209.25, Now #9
Right Lane: Chuck Cheeseman Runs 5.826/250.48, Now #1

Cheeseman had a great pass here straight and clean all the way down the 1320. He set the et and mph track record with this pass.

Right Lane: Cy Chesterman Runs 5.864/247.18, Now #2

Chesterman just lost his track records, but was right there with a nice looking pass.

Left Lane: Randy Fleming Runs 5.946/247.25, Now #4
Right Lane: Tate Branch Runs 6.032/239.80, Now #6

These two were up earlier and had completed their burnouts, but then were shut off because on a broke car on the top end. Fleming was straight down the middle of the groove. Branch skated around a little, but stayed with it to get in the show. That wraps up round one with Cheeseman on the top with et and mph track records and Kanenwisher rounding out the top eight.
