ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from final, round 2 qualifying in Federal-Mogul Funny Car at the Division One Event Six listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Eric Lourie Runs 6.207/238.01, Now #8; Best prior run: 8.784/117.88, Was #12

Lourie did not make the field with his first round time, so he needed to beat a 6.265 second E.T. in this round. He didn't do it with this run.

Left Lane: Paul Gill Runs 5.732/251.53, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.741/250.60, Was #2

Gill was a little shaky at the start but he stayed with it and kept the car under control. He almost crossed the center line at the finish, but stayed in his lane to record a time good enough to move him into second in the qualifying order.

Left Lane: Scott Woodington Runs 11.423/74.22, Now #14; Best prior run: 10.311/75.08, Was #14

Woodington veered hard to the right as he came off the line and had to get totally off the throttle to keep from crossing into the right lane.

Left Lane: Mickey Ferro Runs 6.175/196.27, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.438/211.26, Was #10

Ferro got out of the groove at 1,000 feet but stayed in for a run that should get him into the field. As he entered the traps, his car showed a burst of flame and a puff of smoke.

Left Lane: Frank Manzo Runs 5.711/253.04, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.659/254.81, Was #1
Right Lane: Bob Newberry Runs 12.121/67.27, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.819/249.16, Was #3

It was a routine run by Frank Manzo: straight, strong, quick and fast. Newberry shut down half way after his tires got loose.
