CHERRYVILLE, N.C. -- Top Fuel competitors Paul Romine and Doug Herbert have reached an agreement to continue fielding the CARQUEST Auto Parts Top Fuel team as part of Doug Herbert Motorsports for the 2002 racing season.

"Doug (Herbert) and myself have been pleased with our agreement for this season," said Romine, who merged his Aerolite Racing team with Herbert's Snap-on Tools team following the 2000 racing season. "With Herbert Motorsports continuing to manage the CARQUEST Top Fuel team, the future is bright for continued success in IHRA and a promising outlook for NHRA competition."

The combination of Romine and Herbert makes for the most lethal duo in IHRA drag racing history; 7 IHRA championships and nearly 30 national event wins. Overseeing the Romine team is Mike McLaughlin, who tuned Don Lampus to an IHRA championship in 1999. That is a combination of 8 IHRA World Championships.

McLaughlin will continue as Romine’s tuner with Sam Shockley the crew chief.

A schedule of NHRA and IHRA events for the 2002 racing season has yet to be finalized.

Doug Herbert owns and operates Doug Herbert Performance Parts, mail-order performance parts company, and is a four-time IHRA Top Fuel Champion. In 1999, he finished seventh in the NHRA Winston championship points standings. He is a multi-time NHRA National event winner.

Paul Romine owns and operates Dealer's Engine Sales, of Indianapolis, a Ford Authorized Distributor of parts to Ford and Lincoln-Mercury Dealers. He is a three-time IHRA Top Fuel Champion.
