INDY - Pro Stock Bike Qualifying Notes, Final Session
By Larry Sullivan

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from final, round 5 qualifying in Pro Stock Bike at the 47th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Mike Kovacevich Runs 7.641/169.93, Now #25; No Prior Run

3:43 PM This is a bit unusual, a new rider making his first run of the season in the final qualifying session for the U.S. Nationals. Now that's optimism! Redell Harris is listed as his crew chief, Harris spraining his ankle in a top-end collision earlier in the event. Harris withdrew and re-entered his motorcycle with Kovacevich as the rider. He was off the race pace from the start with a 1.165 short time, but it was an interesting attempt.

Left Lane: Bruce Dickson No Time, Now #28; Best prior run: 7.820/170.79, Was #28
Right Lane: Neil Jacobs Runs 8.709/114.79, Now #24; Best prior run: 7.610/163.85, Was #24

Dickson rolled in and back out of the beams, the autostart system timing out before he staged again.

Left Lane: Dennis Mirante Runs 7.629/172.87, Now #25; Best prior run: 7.646/174.59, Was #26
Right Lane: Reggie Cole Runs 7.556/174.68, Now #23; Best prior run: 7.474/173.03, Was #23

For the record, the mark to beat to get into the field is Brian DeLong's 7.382. It's hot and sunny, so it's unlikely the field will change much during this session, most of the qualified teams using it as a tuning check for tomorrow's eliminations.

Left Lane: Connie Cohen Runs 7.474/172.25, Now #22; Best prior run: 7.451/177.56, Was #22
Right Lane: Blaine Hale Runs 7.453/178.90, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.433/179.76, Was #21

Left Lane: Rob Short No Time, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.420/180.79, Was #20
Right Lane: Chris Reuter No Time, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.387/174.75, Was #17

Reuter left way before Short, then took out the finish line timing reflectors, so neither rider gets a time here.

Left Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.328/181.81, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.406/180.36, Was #19
Right Lane: Sam Hurwitz Runs 7.467/175.34, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.370/177.04, Was #15

Scali bumps DeLong on a very good run, moving Hurwitz to the bump spot.

Left Lane: Ron Ayers Runs 7.453/179.52, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.395/181.59, Was #19
Right Lane: C.J. Smith Runs 7.425/176.03, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.364/177.25, Was #15

Left Lane: Brian DeLong Runs 7.420/180.09, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.382/181.28, Was #17
Right Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.339/184.52, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.346/184.17, Was #14

Just-bumped DeLong fails to get back in. Berry improves 0.007 seconds and moves two spots up the ladder.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.349/184.17, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.341/179.23, Was #14
Right Lane: Greg Underdahl Runs 7.366/177.93, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.333/179.25, Was #11

The remaining bikes in the lanes are already qualified, so the bumping is over.

Left Lane: Chris Bostick Runs 7.323/180.65, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.341/182.62, Was #13
Right Lane: Joe DeSantis No Time, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.317/177.37, Was #9

Bostick not only improves, he runs a career-best ET in the heat of the day. DeSantis broke as soon as he let the clutch out.

Left Lane: Todd Doege Runs 7.392/178.28, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.268/188.54, Was #8
Right Lane: Reggie Showers Runs 7.393/180.74, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.267/179.44, Was #7

Nice side-by-side show, but no help.

Left Lane: GT Tonglet Runs 7.245/182.33, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.238/184.22, Was #6
Right Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.250/180.00, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.200/184.72, Was #4

Two nice runs here...no improvement, but the class of the round so far.

Left Lane: Matt Hines Runs 7.307/180.96, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.220/185.79, Was #5

Left Lane: Angelle Savoie Runs 7.223/185.59, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.127/189.87, Was #1
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.294/180.36, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.189/186.12, Was #2

Savoie runs low ET of the round...
