Nationals:
Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
4 Billy Harper 6.283 223.62 Q 5 Ed Hoover 6.288 223.58
*****WINNER***** 0.466 6.362 219.97 E1 0.492 7.003 151.14
12:50 PM This may only be an exhibition, but these guys are serious. Every
one of them wants to be able to say they won the U.S. Nationals!
Harper
won the light and then Hoover's car fell off the pace at half track
Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
3 Shannon Jenkins 6.231 223.62 Q 6 Ronnie Hood 6.295 222.88
0.445 6.799 155.97 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.446 6.360 22.47
This was a very close drag race and Jenkins had the edge at half track, but
then his car faltered, with a flash of flame and smoke from the pipes.
Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
2 Thomas Patterson 6.215 226.77 Q 7 Quain Stott 6.297 222.55
0.621 6.357 224.85 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.514 6.327 221.23
Patterson's reaction wasn't as bad as the numbers make it appear - his car sat
there and spun the rear tires before it moved an inch. By the time he got started,
Stott was long gone. Stott has lane choice against Hood in the
semifinals.
Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
1 Fred Hahn 6.170 227.96 Q 8 Dan Rowe 6.314 221.27
0.481 9.178 99.31 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.530 6.550 178.00
Hahn's car made a hard move to the left on the launch. Hahn fought it back,
but the car continued past center and headed for the centerline, so he shut it
down. Rowe was on a very strong pass to half track, then the car slowed. He
races Harper in round two, Harper with lane choice.
