INDY - Pro Stock Truck Qualifying Notes, Session #4
By Michael L. Jex

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock Truck at the 47th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Right Lane: Peter Berner Runs 7.732/175.30, Now #32; Best prior run: 7.704/174.37, Was #32

10:09 AM With just one more round at 2:30pm today - this may be the last-best-chance to get into the sweet sixteen for these trucks. From what we've seen so far this morning the air is good and the track is fast, so hang on, it's time for Pro Stock Truck!

Berner is still spinning the tires hard at the start. He had nice top end charge, but lost too much ET at the starting line.

Right Lane: Vinny Barone Runs 10.880/76.68, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.566/177.84, Was #20

Barone has a big Drug Store variety "For Sale" sign with a phone number in the back window of his truck this weekend. He also has trouble at the start, giving up just past 330-foot marker.

Left Lane: Victor Cagnazzi Runs 7.495/180.26, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.530/179.25, Was #15
Right Lane: Samuel Tompkins Runs 7.708/176.01, Now #33; Best prior run: 7.745/175.98, Was #34

Left Lane: Michael Graves Runs 7.908/170.02, Now #35; Best prior run: 7.897/169.25, Was #35
Right Lane: Jody Schmeisser Runs 7.668/175.73, Now #31; Best prior run: 7.659/175.89, Was #31

No joy here...

Left Lane: Mark Linebarrier Runs 7.610/176.67, Now #26; Best prior run: 7.641/175.41, Was #28
Right Lane: Douglas Harris Runs 7.691/173.27, Now #30; Best prior run: 7.644/175.05, Was #30

The bump is currently Joe Pigford, Linebarrier moves up, but not enough to get into the program.

Left Lane: Rick Brown Runs 7.601/176.28, Now #26; Best prior run: 7.642/175.14, Was #29
Right Lane: Chris McGaha No Time, Now #29; Best prior run: 7.616/177.44, Was #28

McGaha had a problem after coming to a stop on the burnout. He can't get the truck restarted, so the crew runs out to push him back. As it rolls back he get's the truck restarted, and backs up the rest of the way on his own, but Brown will still have a single.

This is a career best for Brown, but it's still well off the pace.

Left Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 7.569/178.00, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.601/177.23, Was #25
Right Lane: Lou Ficco Runs 7.546/178.17, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.557/178.28, Was #18

Ouch! Ficco just misses the 7.542 bump spot.

Left Lane: Jim Kennedy Runs 7.624/177.77, Now #24; Best prior run: 7.588/177.14, Was #24
Right Lane: Jerry Haas Runs 7.534/178.59, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.576/178.26, Was #23

Haas bumps Pigford, but will likely find himself outside by the end of the round.

Left Lane: Bob Yonke Runs 7.590/177.44, Now #25; Best prior run: 7.614/176.53, Was #28
Right Lane: Scott Tidwell Runs 7.560/177.95, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.575/178.54, Was #23

Left Lane: Larry Seay Runs 7.558/178.33, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.597/176.56, Was #26
Right Lane: Jeff Naiser Runs 7.555/177.63, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.559/177.56, Was #20

1.061 second 60-foot time for Seay, his red truck lifted the front wheels nicely at the start. He moves up five spots, but has at leave five more to go.

Left Lane: Joe Pigford Runs 7.523/179.16, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.542/178.85, Was #17
Right Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 7.571/179.21, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.550/179.49, Was #19

Pigford started the round on the bubble, but was bumped by Jerry Haas. Pigford returns the favor to Haas, bumping the chassis builder and giving himself some breathing room as well.

Left Lane: Jeff Gracia Runs 7.486/180.00, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.527/178.87, Was #14
Right Lane: Don Smith Runs 7.554/179.09, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.516/178.87, Was #8

Gracia nailed the setup this round! Nice pass - 1.056 short time is one of the best of the session.

Left Lane: Craig Eaton Runs 7.523/179.88, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.529/179.54, Was #16
Right Lane: Scott Perin Runs 7.556/178.61, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.527/178.95, Was #14

Craig's new Dodge continues to move up the ladder. With just a .006 improvement in ET his moves up THREE spots...

Left Lane: Todd Patterson Runs 7.499/179.95, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.520/179.06, Was #11
Right Lane: John Lingenfelter Runs 7.490/179.83, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.528/179.78, Was #16

Both drivers run in the 7.40's for the first time today and this weekend. 1.060 time for Patterson and 1.064 for Lingenfelter to 60-foot.

Left Lane: Bart Price Runs 7.515/179.88, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.518/179.92, Was #12
Right Lane: John Coughlin Runs 7.509/179.56, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.504/179.28, Was #8

Left Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 7.519/179.47, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.512/179.37, Was #10
Right Lane: Randy Daniels Runs 7.524/179.56, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.492/179.61, Was #5

Nope - no improvements this time around.

Left Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 7.511/179.76, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.509/179.59, Was #9
Right Lane: Dale Eaton Runs 7.565/179.61, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.522/179.90, Was #13

Left Lane: Mike Coughlin Runs 7.461/180.62, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.473/180.52, Was #1
Right Lane: Bob Panella Jr Runs 7.507/179.35, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.480/180.16, Was #2

This would be a great final round - both drivers have been on target all weekend. Jeg's engine program is coming around! Mike drove around Panella at the top end of the track with the best pass of the weekend.

With one round to go Mike Coughlin continues to dominate - Scott Perin is on the bubble with a 7.527. 10:39 AM
