By

CLERMONT, Ind. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Funny Car at the 20th annual Budweiser Shootout at Indianapolis:

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   5 Whit Bazemore 15.000 NS Q 4 Ron Capps 14.000 NS
 *****WINNER***** 0.501 5.308 246.39 E1 0.503 5.642 186.98
Under sunny skies the temperature is around 75 degrees, humidity is 55% and the barometer is 30.05 inches. Track temperature is estimated to be around 110 degrees. They left the line together and both of them headed left, and when they got out of the groove they started to haze the tires. Bazemore was able to pedal it and get to the finish line first. Capps blistered the tires through the 1320.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   6 Frank Pedregon 16.000 NS Q 3 Bruce Sarver 13.000 NS
 *****WINNER***** 0.560 5.227 272.67 E1 0.544 5.368 236.59
Almost a repeat of the first race as they started to loose traction and blistered the Goodyears around half track. They started the pedal fest and Frank Pedregon won the battle.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   8 Del Worsham 18.000 NS Q 1 John Force 11.000 NS
                  0.475 10.942 84.51 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.499 4.863 316.23
Worsham was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle. Force showed the rest of the Funny Car teams you can get down the right lane and he was on great pass until about 1000 and that was when the engine started to eat itself up.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   7 Dean Skuza 17.000 NS Q 2 Tony Pedregon 12.000 NS
                  0.501 5.188 248.02 E1 *****WINNER***** 0.502 4.842 313.58
They left the starting line together and then around half track Skuza started to loose traction and when he pedaled it, it started to drop cylinders. Pedregon just like his boss before him he was straight down Broadway and started mixing up cylinders on the top end. Tony with the quick et of the round. It is the Pedregons facing off in round two and Tony will have lane choice over Frank. Force will get to pick his lane against Bazemore in the next round.
