INDY - Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #2

CLERMONT, Ind. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock at the 47th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:


Left Lane: Carl Beal Runs 13.145/57.15, Now #44; Best prior run: 17.718/45.34, Was #44

Beal shook real hard right off the starting line.

Left Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.996/198.03, Now #19; Best prior run: 11.992/72.69, Was #43
Right Lane: Larry Peternel Runs 7.195/192.25, Now #38; Best prior run: 29.690/46.47, Was #45

Troy Coughlin with a big leap in performance, but not enough to get in the show. Peternel with a good pass but not even close.

Left Lane: Bill Shorts Runs 7.660/143.02, Now #41; Best prior run: 7.983/177.88, Was #40
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 7.010/197.59, Now #26; Best prior run: 10.254/88.55, Was #44

Shorts got out of the groove and reeled it back into his lane. Johnson continues to struggle here.

Left Lane: Eric Shelton Runs 7.053/195.79, Now #34; Best prior run: 7.179/182.43, Was #38
Right Lane: Mike Trumble Runs 6.971/196.96, Now #17; Best prior run: 9.622/95.45, Was #44

Trumble with nice looking pass, but comes up just short of the bump. Shelton with his career best et and mph pass here.

Left Lane: Jim Cunningham Runs 8.670/112.67, Now #40; Best prior run: 7.176/191.43, Was #39
Right Lane: Ray Franks Runs 6.973/197.62, Now #18; Best prior run: 9.212/103.04, Was #44



Left Lane: Kenny Delco Runs 7.084/193.57, Now #37; Best prior run: 7.135/193.05, Was #39
Right Lane: Brad Jeter Runs 6.943/198.12, Now #8; Best prior run: 8.516/110.16, Was #44

Delco with his career best pass here, but it is not enough to get in the show. Jeter got down the track and in the show with this pass. That bumped out Morgan.

Left Lane: Mike Weinle Runs 7.095/195.00, Now #39; Best prior run: 7.088/193.49, Was #38
Right Lane: Tony Gillig Runs 6.990/196.79, Now #22; Best prior run: 7.327/156.90, Was #43

Gillig with a good 1.027 60-foot time, but can not get the et on the top end. Weinle does not improve on yesterday's time and had trouble getting it stopped and went into the sand trap.

Left Lane: Arturo Delgado Runs 8.825/112.81, Now #36; Best prior run: 7.042/194.52, Was #36
Right Lane: Mike Thomas Runs 7.131/195.53, Now #41; Best prior run: 7.134/195.36, Was #41

Both cars had a little wiggle in the middle of the track and will not get into the show.

Left Lane: Danny Coffman Runs 7.046/194.21, Now #35; Best prior run: 7.037/195.31, Was #35
Right Lane: Kevin Lawrence Runs 7.086/193.96, Now #39; Best prior run: 7.114/193.40, Was #40

Lawrence with a lot smoke from half track on looked like he lost an engine. Coffman slowed from yesterday's time.

Left Lane: Larry Nance Runs 6.956/197.65, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.012/196.27, Was #31
Right Lane: Bob Benza Runs 7.030/196.13, Now #33; Best prior run: 7.034/195.85, Was #34

Benza was real loose right off the starting line. Nance with a great pass to get in the show and that bumped out Martino.

Left Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.986/197.05, Now #23; Best prior run: 7.007/195.85, Was #29
Right Lane: Barry Grant Runs 9.611/96.20, Now #34; Best prior run: 7.030/195.19, Was #34

Grant made a quick move toward the centerline and got off the throttle. Stevens made a move in the right direct, but not enough to get in the show.

Left Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.957/197.68, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.005/196.87, Was #29
Right Lane: Bo Nickens Runs 9.246/102.42, Now #32; Best prior run: 7.025/196.70, Was #32

Nickens was real soft off the starting line and then clicked it off. Watson with a nice straight pass down the groove to get in the show and that bumped out Nobile.

Left Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 12.706/67.60, Now #29; Best prior run: 7.003/195.53, Was #29
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 7.004/196.64, Now #30; Best prior run: 7.007/195.62, Was #30

Spies launched with the front end in the air and headed toward the center line before he clicked it off. Johnson with the slight improvement, but not near enough.

Left Lane: Robert Patrick Runs 6.990/196.90, Now #26; Best prior run: 6.998/196.10, Was #28
Right Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 6.965/198.20, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.997/196.85, Was #27

Koretsky had a little wiggle around 330 feet, but still got close to getting in here.

Left Lane: Hurley Blakeney Runs 6.978/197.57, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.985/196.44, Was #24
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.931/199.26, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.974/197.91, Was #23

Jeg goes from outside the show to the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.960/198.35, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.968/196.82, Was #21
Right Lane: John Nobile Runs 7.023/197.54, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.966/197.28, Was #19

Morgan with a slight improvement, and just misses the show. No help for Nobile.

Left Lane: Tom Martino Runs 6.907/199.58, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.967/197.31, Was #21
Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.917/199.11, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.960/197.33, Was #18

This was a great looking drag race as both cars launched hard and just blasted on through the quarter mile. Both from outside of the show to the top half. That puts Nance on the bubble.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 7.238/191.51, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.956/199.02, Was #15
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.913/199.52, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.959/197.48, Was #18

Warren was real sluggish right off the starting line and never did get it up to power. Anderson with the big jump all the way to the number four spot and that puts Warren on the bump.

Left Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 6.925/199.23, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.949/197.83, Was #14
Right Lane: David Strouse Jr. Runs 6.959/198.09, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.951/197.57, Was #15

Alderman with the quickest 60-foot time of the round with a 1.018 seconds and into the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 6.941/199.17, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.938/197.16, Was #12
Right Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 6.957/198.76, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.948/197.42, Was #14

No help for either of these two.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.902/200.00, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.927/198.88, Was #9
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.999/197.74, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.927/198.73, Was #10

Krisher with a great pass here to take over the number one spot and record the first 200 mph pass in IRP history.

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.905/200.29, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.910/198.41, Was #4
Right Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.969/198.55, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.921/198.44, Was #8

Edwards now with the fastest pass here at IRP, but only moves up one spot. No help for Pawuk.

Left Lane: Mark Osborne Runs 6.934/200.74, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.903/198.44, Was #2
Right Lane: George Marnell Runs 6.928/198.99, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.920/198.58, Was #7

Well for the third straight pass in a row we have a speed track record, but he can not retake the number one spot. No help for Marnell and he stays number seven . That wraps up this session with Krisher on top and W.J. on the bump, with Osborne setting the mph track record at 200.74 mph.
