STUDIO CITY, Calif. -- NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series 2000 national champions were honored Monday night in a ceremony at BB King's Blues Club. NHRA, the world's largest motorsports sanctioning body, and Federal-Mogul Corp. crowned champions in seven racing categories.

Rick Santos and Frank Manzo each earned their fourth consecutive titles in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car, respectively.

Santos, 41, scored wins in 13 of 16 races he attended and 48-year-old Manzo won 12 of 14 events.

Jerry Arnold, Kalamazoo, Mich.; Peter Biondo, Clarksburg, N.J.; Edmond Richardson, Goodlettsville, Tenn.; Ed Richardson, Bradenton, Fla.; and Dan Northrop, Doylestown, Pa.; were also presented with checks and trophies for earning championships in their respective categories.

Santos and Manzo each earned $22,500 for their titles while Competition Eliminator champion Arnold and Super Stock winner Biondo each walked away with $11,500. Checks for $7,500 were issued to Edmond Richardson in Stock, Ed Richardson in Super Comp, and Dan Northrop in Super Gas.

The NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series champions were also recognized later in the evening during the NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series awards ceremony at the Universal Amphitheatre.

Racers in the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series also compete for divisional titles in NHRA's seven geographic regions across the U.S. and Canada. Those champions will be honored later in the year at divisional banquets in Hershey, Pa., Jacksonville, Fla., Indianapolis, Houston, Overland Park, Kan., Seattle and Las Vegas.
