Okay, So We're Not Perfect

MOHNTON, Pa. -
It's Sunday morning and there isn't a cloud in sight. The first order of business
will be another round of Comp, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, and Super Gas (not
necessarily in that order) to get those fields down to eight cars or less. Then
final eliminations will begin at 11:00 AM, as usual.
Two "mea culpas": In our haste to compliment Blaine Hale for his excellent runs on
his Kawasaki Pro Stock Motorcycle, we completely overlooked the fact that Rob Short
is also astride a "green machine." Short had the previous best for a Kawa, a 7.310
at the first incarnation of Englishtown, back in May, and qualified ahead of Hale
with a 7.275. Ironically, the two meet in the first round today. Our apologies to
both racers and their fans for the confusion.
We also flagged Dave Hirata's 270.86 mph speed as a Federal-Mogul Dragster
national record. It's a track record, for sure, but he hasn't yet run the 268.16
mph speed needed to back it up as a national record.
See, it's all in the details. Stay tuned and we'll bring you a few thousand
additional details throughout the day.
