MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Lee Callaway jumped to the top of the field of Federal-Mogul Dragster to lead qualifying in the Mayor's Cup at Montgomery Motorsports Park. Callaway covered the quarter mile in 5.695 seconds at 242.91 mph for this, the fourth event in the NHRA Southeast Division Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series. Troy Buff, of Spring, Texas, follows Callaway in the number two position with a pass of 5.788, 242.84 mph. Local favorites Johnny Moore and Mike Crutchfield, both of Montgomery, are qualified fourth and tenth respectively in the Super Stock categories. Qualifying continues at Montgomery Motorsports Park Saturday at 10 a.m. Gates open at 8 a.m. Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car receive one final qualifying pass and then begin eliminations at 6 p.m. Also schedules for Saturday evening will be a Top Fuel Dragster match race and Jet Funny Cars.
