ENGLISHTOWN - Funny Car Time Trials Notes, Session #2

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from final, round 2 time trials in Funny Car at the 31st Matco Tools Spring SuperNationals presented by Racing Champions listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:


Left Lane: Scotty Cannon Runs 4.968/304.60, Now #3; Best prior run: 14.473/70.27, Was #14
Right Lane: Frank Pedregon Runs 5.116/300.53, Now #5; Best prior run: 12.796/76.70, Was #13

Under the night skies both of these guys keep the candles lit all the way through the quarter mile. Both of these guys getting down the track for the first time this weekend.

Left Lane: Gary Densham Runs 5.109/270.00, Now #6; Best prior run: 10.020/88.48, Was #14
Right Lane: Jim Epler Runs 4.993/257.43, Now #4; Best prior run: 9.437/86.67, Was #13

Densham launched hard and then it looked like the car nosed over around a 1000 feet. Epler started to haze the tires on the top end.

Right Lane: Jerry Toliver Runs 4.885/311.70, Now #2; Best prior run: 9.330/85.04, Was #14

Toliver with the header flame clearly visible over the roof line kept them lit all the way though the quarter mile. That gives him the second best pass of the day.

Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 10.438/84.48, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.319/152.55, Was #14

Haddock launched hard and overpowered the track by the 330-foot mark.

Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 12.105/76.56, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.047/303.23, Was #6
Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.936/309.34, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.134/137.36, Was #13

Capps blistered the hides right off the starting line. Worsham with a great looking pass and with no problems which is good news for them.

Left Lane: John Force Runs 4.897/302.55, Now #3; Best prior run: 4.939/310.77, Was #4
Right Lane: Dean Skuza Runs 9.970/86.05, Now #13; Best prior run: 5.942/160.58, Was #13

Force kept it in the groove and the candles lit all the way, but it is only good enough for third place in today's time trials. Skuza was up in smoke by the 330-foot mark.

Left Lane: Whit Bazemore Runs 11.126/77.66, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.847/314.24, Was #1
Right Lane: Todd Paton Runs 5.018/302.21, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.187/286.86, Was #10

Bazemore started to lose traction and clicked it off. Paton kept his foot in it all the way through the quarter mile for his best pass in the family owned ride. That wraps up Funny Car time trials.
