ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Notes from time trials round 1 in Top Fuel at the 31st Matco Tools Spring SuperNationals presented by Racing Champions listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: David Grubnic Runs 11.401/75.57, Now #2
Right Lane: Don Lampus Runs 4.819/295.34, Now #1

Rit Pustari was in the water box, but had problems before he fired the car and was pulled off. Grubnic blistered the Goodyears around 200 feet and lifted. Lampus started to haze the tires from a 1000 feet to the finish line.

Left Lane: Doug Herbert No Time, Now #4
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 11.044/84.88, Now #2

Herbert had problems after the burnout and shut it off. McClenathan smoked the tires right off the starting line.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 5.188/175.46, Now #3
Right Lane: Joe Amato Runs 4.691/315.42, Now #1

Kalitta gets out of the groove a little past half-track and had to lift. Amato goes right down the groove.

Left Lane: Kenny Bernstein Runs 10.022/104.95, Now #5
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 4.696/311.56, Now #2

Bernstein lost traction right off the starting line and pitched the blower belt off. Dixon with a good clean pass to jump right in behind Amato.

Left Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 4.630/315.93, Now #1
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.657/322.65, Now #2

A good drag race here. The dragsters stay glued together all the way down the track with Scelzi barely edging out Schumacher at the finish line.
