1:14 PM Meyer runs his best lap of the weekend against a deep-red light. Conditions are a lot better than during qualifying and round one, the overcast and cool air giving everyone a better shot.

Hirata figured to benefit more from the improved conditions than the other, blown cars, the nitro-burners definitely not liking the hot, humid weather the past few days. Hirata was very late, but his car ran more like we've come to expect from that team, with a ferocious top end and a huge speed.

Good drag race, Nicholson doing all he could with a great light and a good run, but Santos is on another plane of existence, with a very good light of his own and a great run, the margin of victory = 0.069 seconds (approximately 25 feet). However, Santos loses lane choice to Hirata by 0.002 seconds.

Holeshot win for Howard, Ormsby just plain late on this one, the Margin of victory = 0.079 seconds (approximately 29 feet). Howard goes to the semifinals, losing lane choice to Meyer.
