POMPANO BEACH, Fla. --
AUTOfest 2000, a 4-day New Year's holiday motorsports
spectacular presented by GRAND Systems Corporation, has begun the countdown
for "the last race of the century". Over a dozen nitro burning Top Fuel
Dragsters and Funny Cars will battle it out December 30th, 1999, to January
2nd, 2000, at Moroso Motorsports Park in tropical Palm Beach Gardens,
Florida. The event will be highlighted by "Nitro Millennium Mania", a
special New Year's Eve match race between the first lady of drag racing,
Shirley Muldowney, and former archrival, "Big Daddy" Don Garlits. Fans who
attend either the "Tropical Clam Bake" or the "New Millennium Ball" will be
invited to watch Muldowney and Garlits square off at 11:59PM on New Year's
Eve and blast into the new century. It will be the first time these two drag
racing pioneers and legends have raced against each other in over ten years.
Grand Marshal for this tremendous New Years celebration will be 9-time NHRA
Funny Car world champion, John Force, who will be on hand to sign autographs,
but will not be racing. In addition to four days of nitro thrills, AUTOfest
2000 will feature jet cars, wheel standers, nostalgia dragsters, nitro
Harley's, alcohol dragsters and funny cars, and plenty of sportsman action.
There is more than just drag racing at AUTOfest 2000. Stroll through
AUTOfest Village and you'll find something for everyone, with concerts,
simulators, car, truck and bike shows, a family fun center, the Harley
Davidson museum, one-of-a-kind vehicles, autograph sessions, and much more.
