AKRON, Ohio -- Beginning in 2000, Summit Racing will become the largest supporter of bracket racing in history, in an unprecedented move that supports racing programs with both the National Hot Rod Association and the International Hot Rod Association. Bracket racers from these two organizations are the backbone of the sport, and form the largest group of racing enthusiasts in the world. Summit Racing will partner with NHRA on the new Summit E.T. Racing Series, a bracket racing program at all 142 NHRA tracks with 300,000 participants. Participants compete weekly at NHRA tracks across the United States and Canada for points, trying to qualify to compete at seven Summit Racing Division Finals. Winners at the division level compete at the Summit Racing National E.T. Finals. Details will appear throughout the year in National Dragster magazine, on NHRA's web site (http://www.nhra.com) and on Summit Racing's web site. Summit Racing began a similar partnership with IHRA last year. This year, the involvement is increased and all weekly races have been renamed the new IHRA Summit Super Series. This involves more than 80,000 participants at all 65 IHRA tracks in the U.S. and Canada. Participants complete weekly for points, trying to qualify at four Summit Racing World Bracket Championship events in the Fall across the country. Details will be published throughout the year in Drag Review magazine, on IHRA's web site (http://www.ihra.com) and on Summit Racing's web site. "We believe these programs are important to support racing at the grass roots level," said Jon Hedges, Summit Racing Marketing Manager. "We intend to increase awareness in bracket racing programs across the country, because it's the lifeline of the sport." This gives Summit Racing the exclusive sponsorship of bracket racing coast-to-coast at every sanctioned drag strip in the country. Summit Racing Equipment is the industry's largest direct marketer of performance automotive and truck equipment, based in Tallmadge, Ohio with warehouses in Tallmadge and Sparks, Nevada. Founded in 1968, Summit Racing markets products through mail order catalogs and the Internet at http://www.summitracing.com.
