Smith won this one on a staging duel, refusing to go in first until Troy finally went in, then delaying as long as he thought the starter would give him. It worked, the margin of victory = 0.005 seconds (approximately 17 inches), but he loses lane choice to Thomas in the semifinals.

A good drag race, Martino with the holeshot and then outrunning WJ, something we don't see very often. Martino will have lane choice against Jeg in the semifinals.
