ENNIS, Texas - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock at the 14th annual O'Reilly Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.916/199.86, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.934/198.50, Was #15 Right Lane: Arturo Delgado Runs 7.252/158.84, Now #30; Best prior run: 7.068/195.48, Was #30 Edwards and Co. have repaired their car and are back to muscle their way back into the top of this field. Turns out a snap-ring failed and allowed a plug to come out of the oil pump, which pumped all the oil out onto the track this morning.
Now, it's 6:47 PM, the sun has set, the air cooled, and we're likely to have
even better performances than the records we've already seen this weekend.
Here, Edwards drives thru tire shake to step up three spots, he has to be
happy with that one. Left Lane: Robert Patrick Runs 6.947/198.76, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.994/197.02, Was #23 Right Lane: John Nobile Runs 6.914/199.20, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.921/199.77, Was #13 As the full moon rises above the south grandstand, Nobile jumps ahead of Mike Edwards and Patrick improves but comes up one notch short. Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.918/199.77, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.969/197.75, Was #22 Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.928/198.45, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.921/197.97, Was #14 Gaines cards a 1.036 short time to move into the show, bumping The Kid and putting Schmidt on the bubble at 6.931 Left Lane: Randy Jones Runs 11.366/76.43, Now #27; Best prior run: 7.053/196.59, Was #27 Right Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 8.316/118.06, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.893/200.53, Was #9 Jones gave up early, the car dancing around the lane, while Coughlin stayed with it until half track. Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.938/198.85, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.001/197.32, Was #24 Right Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 6.928/199.28, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.931/198.98, Was #16 Morgan misses the show by thousandths, while Schmidt moves in but only by the slimmest of margins. Will that last??... there's lots of cars left in line. Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.844/202.02, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.908/200.49, Was #10 Right Lane: Mike Thomas Runs 6.987/196.97, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.888/199.64, Was #7 That was a great run by the ACDelco Camaro, his 1.042 short time not all that impressive but he made up for it downtrack. Thomas had a 1.044, by comparison. Left Lane: Hurley Blakeney Runs 6.919/198.54, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.095/195.99, Was #31 Right Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.898/200.08, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.966/200.22, Was #23 Both cars leap into the show, Hurley's 1.032 short time translating into an impressive run downtrack. That bumps both Schmidt and Krisher. Left Lane: Robert Harman Runs 10.127/89.56, Now #30; Best prior run: 7.068/196.29, Was #30 Right Lane: Mike Trumble Runs 6.954/199.29, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.947/198.41, Was #22 No joy for these two, especially disappointing for Trumble. Left Lane: Jerry Eckman Runs 6.979/197.84, Now #26; Best prior run: 7.056/196.03, Was #29 Right Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 6.918/199.24, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.890/199.77, Was #9 Eckman finally gets into the sixes tonight, but it's not far enough to move into the show. Left Lane: Tom Martino Runs 6.843/201.43, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.886/200.75, Was #7 Right Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 12.651/68.24, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.860/200.49, Was #3 Martino cards the best 60' time of the weekend, a 1.020 , and splits the Johnsons in the process. I don't think you could pry that new Don Ness car away from him with a club right now. Left Lane: Gary Wiggins Runs 6.972/197.88, Now #26; Best prior run: 7.038/196.16, Was #28 Right Lane: Ray Franks Runs 6.996/197.62, Now #25; Best prior run: 6.969/197.45, Was #25 The numbers say it all, here. Left Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.876/198.45, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.946/198.36, Was #20 Right Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.822/202.15, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.843/202.33, Was #1 This is the quickest everything, here -- quickest ever run, quickest side-by-side, etc. That 6.822 e.t. stands as a new National Record for WJ, and backs up his earlier 202.33 for a new Top Speed record. Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.879/200.31, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.965/199.24, Was #24 Right Lane: George Marnell Runs 6.896/199.73, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.872/200.08, Was #6 Anderson takes his Mark Pawuk horsepower and moves into the show, bumping V. Gaines in the process. That leaves Mike Edwards in danger, at 6.916. Left Lane: Ed Heck Runs 7.024/195.95, Now #28; Best prior run: 7.025/196.46, Was #28 Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.873/200.13, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.885/199.86, Was #9 The Other Dodge moves up into lane-choice territory, and that can prove to be very important tomorrow morning. Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.839/201.61, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.912/200.31, Was #14 Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.868/199.68, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.868/199.77, Was #5 Jeg takes a big jump up the ladder, all the way to the second spot, where he'll face Nobile in round one if Gillig doesn't get in. Left Lane: Tony Gillig Runs 7.939/131.13, Now #24; Best prior run: 6.960/198.41, Was #24 No joy for Gillig, the car driving thru the clutch pretty badly, and the Edwards camp can breathe a sigh of relief. Until, of course, the first round tomorrow, where he'll have to deal with Warren Johnson right off the bat. Man, what a great weekend for Pro Stock fans!
