BATON ROUGE, La. --

This weekend's NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series event at State Capitol Dragway was postponed due to severe weather. The new date for the event is May 21-23.

According to NHRA South Central Division Director Craig Hutchinson conditions at the track made it necessary to call the event. "The weather is definitely a factor," said Hutchinson. "Between the cold temperature and the moisture in the track, safety became an issue."

Hutchinson added that because there had been no qualifying on the previous two days, it would have been extremely difficult to get the 400 participants through tech inspections and time trials in one day.
