ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Angelle Seeling was the No. 2 qualifier at Richmond's Pennzoil Nationals. She covered the quarter-mile in 7.33 seconds at 180.10 mph. In all three national events for Pro Stock Motorcycles so far this season, Seeling was the No. 2 qualifier behind 1997 NHRA Winston Pro Stock Motorcycle champion Matt Hines. In eliminations at Richmond, Seeling defeated Stephanie Reaves, Gary Tonglet and Antron Brown before losing to Matt Hines in the finals. Seeling lost to Hines when she fouled at the starting line. One year ago at the Mopar Parts Nationals, Seeling was the No. 5 qualifier with an e.t. of 7.42 seconds. She defeated Stephanie Reaves before losing to Star Racing teammate John Myers in the second round. Seeling is currently fourth in the NHRA Winston Pro Stock Motorcycle standings. She trails points leader Matt Hines by 183 points. Seeling prior to Englishtown: "What happened in the finals at Richmond is all part of a learning experience, and it's all part of rookie mistakes. I still consider myself a rookie in my second full season at Star Racing. I'm racing against guys that have been out there for 10 years, and there are still 5,000 ways to lose that I haven't learned about yet. "It's been pretty disappointing because Team Winston is trying so hard and I'm trying so hard. That's why it's happened, because I'm just trying too hard.
"I know we have the horsepower to be beside Matt Hines or maybe beat him.
It's gonna be up to me to be on my game and get 100 percent out of the
motorcycle. I know we can beat Matt. We can do anything we want to do, and
Matt Hines is not unbeatable. He's having a stroke of good luck, and we're
having a stroke of bad luck. Neither can last forever."
