ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. -

"It feels so good to come back after a round win
and see nothing but teeth on Alan and the rest of our Team Winston crew."

-- Team Winston Top Fuel driver Gary Scelzi

Gary Scelzi was the No. 11 qualifier at the Castrol Lone Star Nationals at Dallas. He covered the quarter-mile in 4.73 seconds at 299 mph.

In eliminations at Dallas, Scelzi advanced to the semifinals for the second straight race and the third time this season. He defeated Kenny Bernstein and Bruce Sarver before losing to Doug Kalitta in the semifinals.

Scelzi completed the first three-race swing of the season in solid fashion. Entering the Fram Nationals at Atlanta, he was eighth in the NHRA Winston Top Fuel standings. After semifinal berths at both Richmond and Dallas, he finished the three-race swing fifth in the points standings.

Last year at the Mopar Parts Nationals, Scelzi was the No. 6 qualifier with an elapsed time of 4.64 seconds. In eliminations, he defeated Tony Schumacher and Larry Dixon before losing to event winner Cristen Powell in the semifinals.

Scelzi is currently fifth in the NHRA Winston Top Fuel standings. He trails points leader Cory McClenathan by 177 points.

Scelzi prior to Englishtown:

"For the first time this season, I can say we have a car that Alan can tune and I can drive. It feels so good to come back after a round win and see nothing but teeth on Alan and the rest of our Team Winston crew. My man Alan Johnson has been working his heart out night and day trying to cure the gremlins that have plagued us all season.

"Starting with our fourth Dallas qualifying attempt and finishing with our run in the semifinals, we made four consecutive passes with no wheel stands and no tire smoke. It seems the balance on the car is finally where it needs to be, and we think we know how to run this combination.

"This team gave its heart and sole every day on the three-race swing we just completed. Even though we lost in the semis at Richmond and Dallas, we all have more spring in our step and know that Team Winston is ready to win again.

"If I sound excited, that's because I am. I'm looking forward to having a week off before Englishtown and I'm homesick, but I can't wait to get on an airplane that's headed for New Jersey so we can race again. And that, my friends, is 'No Bull.'"
