Castrol Lone Star Nationals

ENNIS, Texas -

Qualifying: 10th, 7.046,

Eliminations:

First Round: Darrell Alderman ( .453 rt, 7.015 E.T., 196.24 mph) defeated Tom Martino (.419 rt, 8.138 E.T., 124.91 mph)

Tom Martino faced Darrell Alderman in the first round of today's running of the Castrol Nationals at the Texas Motorplex. Running in the left lane, the Six Flags Theme Parks pilot grabbed over three hundredths of a second advantage at the start with an excellent .419 reaction time. However, he experienced severe tire shake which propelled his Firebird towards the centerline. With Martino fighting to maintain control, which allowed Alderman to drive by for the win.

"The track threw us a curve today - we thought it would be better than it was. As a result, we were a little heavy on the clutch. We had a good start, but it started to shake the tires, which shot it towards the centerline. I corrected it, and was bringing it back, but when I put it in 3rd, it shot across the track, and I thought I'd lost it. Fortunately, I was able to bring it back. Overall, we're satisfied with the weekend - we qualified our Six Flags Theme Parks Firebird when some fast cars went home, and kept ourselves in the Top 10 in points. Now we head home to Englishtown, the home track for our team and our sponsor - we're looking for big things there!"
