LAS VEGAS --- Fan-favorite Funny Car driver Buddy Hull made his much-anticipated return to NHRA competition this weekend at the Dodge NHRA Nevada Nationals powered by Direct Connection, held at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It was Hull's first event back behind the wheel since suffering a hand injury during the Sonoma Nationals in July, and his return was well-welcomed by the Jim Dunn Racing team, fans and the NHRA community. Piloting the KGC Construction Funny Car, Hull showed steady progress throughout the weekend. His best performance came in the fourth and final qualifying session on Saturday, when he powered to a 4.163 second pass at 257.63 mph. In one of the most competitive Funny Car fields of the season, with 21 cars vying for 16 spots, Hull ultimately qualified in the No. 19 position, narrowly missing the field for Sunday's eliminations. Despite not making the race day lineup, Hull's return to the driver's seat was a personal and professional milestone.
Throughout the weekend, Hull embraced his role as an ambassador for the sport and for Jim Dunn Racing's 75th anniversary season. He connected with fans, signed autographs and was featured on the NHRA Nitro Alley Stage with Hannah Rickards, sharing stories from his recovery and his passion for racing. "The fans are what make this sport so special," Hull said. "The support I've received, from people at the track, on social media and within the NHRA community means the world to me. I also need to give a special shoutout to my wife, Madi, for helping me get through this recovery process. It's been a long road back, but this weekend reminded me exactly why I love doing this. This is where I belong." With his return weekend now complete, Hull and the Jim Dunn Racing team are turning their focus to the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals in Pomona, California, the final stop of the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season. "Pomona is always a special race, and it's the perfect place to finish out the season strong," said Hull. "We learned a lot this weekend, and I'm confident that we're headed in the right direction. I can't wait to get back in the car and make some strong runs for Jim Dunn Racing, our partners and all the fans who have supported us this year." Hull has one final race this season for the Countdown to the Championship. He and the Jim Dunn Racing team will be back in competition in two weeks at the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals on November 13-16 at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip. There will be two qualifying sessions on Friday, November 14 and two more qualifying sessions on Saturday, November 15. For tickets or more information on the NHRA World Nationals visit NHRA.com.
