Kalitta came in with a 9-7 edge against Herbert in their careers and ran his tally to 10-7 here in a pedaling contest. Both cars smoked the tires, but Herbert did so before half track and Kalitta only hazed them a bit until just before the finish line. He will have lane choice against Russell in the semifinals.
