John Force and the BlueDEF Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car last won here was in 2005. He was runner-up to Jack Beckman at the recently completed season opener at Pomona. The sixteen-time Funny Car world champion has more race wins here than any other driver in the nitro categories. Force has made 14 final round appearances with eight wins, including four consecutive victories from 1994 to 1997. He's also qualified No. 1 eight times. Force's number two qualifying position was just 0.003 off of Hagan's pace, with a better speed. John is 24 - 11 in round 1 at this event. He is the only driver to have competed at all 36 Phoenix national events. Haddock only had a single attempt to qualify in session one. He sat out session two and then had the engine just quits on the starting line after a strong burnout in the final session yesterday. This will be Haddock's 112th round of eliminations. Force has dominated Haddock in round one pairing by winning five of their six prior encounters. Force runs all of the number with all of the incrementals and the best ET and speed of the event to take the easy win. Haddock's Mustang gets way loose and comes close to the wall be fore he can gather it back up. John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.875 sec., 330ft-2.224, 660ft-3.121/287.23 mph. |
