This is the 196th start for Angie Smith.

Angelle Sampey took the title at this race in 2002. She starts the day with 602 rounds of racing and is only the 3rd Pro Stock Motorcycle racer to compete in 600 or more rounds (A. Hines, Steve Johnson). She is 9 - 1 in round 1 here.

This is the 7th time these two have met and it's the 6th time it has happened in the first round.

Smith gets out of the gate first and starts pulling away. She extends her lead to the 330 foot mark, then Sampey starts making up ground. Smith has problems late in the run and she sits up on the bike. Sampey goes around Smith and takes the stripe for the win.

Angelle Sampey's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.030), 330 ft(-0.033), 660ft(-0.020), 1,000ft(0.188). MOV: 0.6438 seconds (more than 100 feet).
