CORDOVA, Ill. -- With the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it’s great to know that just around the corner is a growing holiday tradition as the 4th Annual Hangoverfest is presented at Cordova Dragway Park on Saturday, January 1st. “We really didn’t expect the growth and fun of this event” said Track Operator Scott Gardner. “People are really anxious to get rid of that cabin fever of the holidays and get out here for some drag racing action.” he continued.
The Hangoverfest designed mostly for street driven vehicles is conducted on New Years Day with racing open for everyone. While the race track is prepared (cleaned and sprayed with traction compound) its almost impossible to get adequate traction for the high powered race cars because of the very cold surface temperatures. Therefore, racing is mainly from the street driven vehicles. Gates open at 10 AM with test-n-tune and grudge racing starting at 11 AM. Race or watch for only $10. In addition to the racing there is FREE aspirin for those who overindulged the night before and $1 bloody marys for those 21 and over and not racing.
New this year is the addition of a Jet Funny Car exhibition. The mostly crazy ‘Diamond” Jim Crownhart will bring in his Jet Funny Car shooting for a winter time “Illinois Land Speed Record.” “I haven’t ever ran the jet car in these types of conditions” said Crownhart. “However, as long as it’s not to windy we’ll go for it” he continued.
The HangoverFest Event at Cordova Dragway Park is the original Midwest Wintertime Wonderland for racing on New Year’s Day. For more information on this event contact Cordova Dragway Park at 309-654-2110.
