NORWALK, Ohio -- IHRA Vice-President of Sales/Marketing, Aaron Polburn, announced AC Delco as title sponsor of the inaugural IHRA Summit Drag Racing event, April 20-22, 2001 at Virginia Motorsports Park. Joining AC Delco as presenting sponsor will be Chevrolet, with the event known as the AC Delco Nationals, presented by Chevrolet.
Joining Polburn at the PRI show in Indianapolis for the announcement were Stan Novak, Associate Sports Marketing Manager Advertising & Sales Promotion, AC Delco, Fred Simmonds, Drag Racing Marketing Manager for General Motors and Bryan Pierce, of Virginia Motorsports Park.
"I am pleased to announce the largest event sponsorship program in IHRA history," said Polburn. "It is the first time these two world recognized companies have gotten involved in a major way with IHRA. The AC Delco Nationals, presented by Chevrolet, gives IHRA the opportunity to reach new fans in one of the fastest growing areas of the United States."
"AC Delco is excited about teaming up with the IHRA and Chevrolet at Virginia Motorsports Park," Novak said. "We've done a lot of research, that shows what works, and obviously this venue is aimed specifically at our target customers and that's why we are there."
Like AC Delco, Chevrolet plans to utilize the race to build relationships with dealers and vendors.
"Chevrolet Motor Division is proud to become the presenting sponsor of the IHRA AC Delco Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park," stated Simmonds, Drag Racing Marketing Manager for GM. "This sponsorship is noteworthy in that it reaffirms Chevrolet's ongoing relationship with Virginia Motorsports Park and launches a new relationship with the IHRA. AC Delco is a natural marketing partner for Chevrolet, and we're looking forward to a great drag racing event where we can host our local Chevrolet and AC Delco dealers and personnel."
GM brands have enjoyed a strong relationship with Virginia Motorsports Park as the "Official Vehicle" of VMP for the past six years. Earlier this year, Virginia Motorsports Park, located in Dinwiddie, Va., south of Richmond, switched sanctioning from NHRA to IHRA
"Virginia Motorsports Park is pleased and proud to have AC Delco and Chevrolet as part of the first IHRA national event in Virginia," said Paul Coleman, General Partner, Virginia Motorsports Park. "Switching sanctioning bodies was a major change for our facility and the drag racing industry. We're honored AC Delco and Chevrolet have chosen to continue their long-standing relationship with VMP and begin a new one with IHRA."
