LAS VEGAS -- The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway began its inaugural three-day Wild, Wild West Thanksgiving Classic on Friday, Nov. 29. Rick Northup of Boise, Ida., claimed the $2,500 Super Pro first prize while Matt Vanderlip of Chatsworth, Calif., earned the Pro division victory. A total of 200 entries (199 cars and one bike) ran in the first round. More entries are expected to arrive Saturday and Sunday, when the Super Pro division's first prize jumps to $5,000.
Erik Marsik of Washington, Utah, won the Pro Division Jerry's Nugget Casino Run For The Money. Jamie Ellis of Mapleton, Utah, won the Jerry's Nugget Casino Run For The Money in the Super Pro class.
Racing continues Saturday and Sunday with gates set to open at 7 a.m.
SUPER PRO ($2,500-to-win) Winner: Rick Northup (Boise, Ida.) '99 Davis dragster 8.922 sec./146.29 mph. Runner-up: David Chun Jr. (Vancouver, Wash.) '02 Brogie roadster 10.051 sec./139.04 mph.
